This shows that the racially motivated hate against Muslims and Arabs in the US is not limited to NYC. Proposed mosques have been protested around the country! This ignorant shit has got to stop!!!!
Ignorance and hate! Below is an excerpt from an article that shows why Americans are really up in arms over a mosque being erected a couple of blocks away from the former site of the World Trade Center. Because ever since 9/11/2001 Americans have allowed fear, ignorance, and intolerance to preside over their minds, blocking out things that were once supposedly traits that made us a great country. Like compassion, understanding, and reason.
Using “100 lines of found writings from actual reported hate crimes,” Anida Yoeu Ali created a prose poem about “the exponential percentage increase of hate crimes against Arabs, Muslims and those perceived to be Arab or Muslim since the events of September 11, 2001.” Ali’s 1700% Project borrows its name from that massive percentage jump and takes a stance against hate crimes in terms any layperson can understand.
The fact that hate crimes against Arabs, Muslims and those perceived as Arab and Muslim rose 1700% after 9/11 shows that a large segment of the public is ignorantly biased against a group of people they perceive as an enemy or threat. And the fact that they have been lashing out at people who they merely perceive to be a part of said group they fear, shows how boundless this hate truly is.
This is beyond a sad state for the country to be in, and I for one am ashamed to be associated with a country that behaves likes this (and so many other ways too, but I digress). There is no sound or logical reason for this mosque to not be allowed…there is only hate and ignorant based bias. And aren’t we supposed to be better than that?
